Raising Awareness Through Movies and Books

It's National Teen Dating Violence Awareness month.

1 in 3 teens experiences some form of abuse in their relationships

58% of teens and young adults report experiencing abuse through some form of digital and social media

For more information go to loveisrespect.org
or text "Loveis” to 77054 to get help

I am a firm believer that when the topic is too hard, a conversation can be started through movies or books. Although many forms of media glorify violence, there are a great number of wonderful movies and books out there that delve into the tough issues with realism and sensitivity and get us talking.

I agree that books and movies are often the best ways to broach difficult subjects. It's so important that parents start a dialogue with their kids; as you've shown, the stats are heartbreaking.

You are so right! I am always floored by the statics, no matter how many times I read them. It is just so important to talk. Some conversations are hard to have, let alone even bring up, but hopefully these great books and movies can help start that difficult discussion.

Hey,

Great job promoting the teen dating violence awareness month. I must admit I had no clue it existed (the awaremess program) but as a parent to three boys under 6, I know they'll be teens sooner than I know it...

I know, the time goes faster than we want it to. And it is so important to talk to our boys, too. It is just not girls that get abused in dating relationships. Thanks for stopping by, your support, and your comments. :)

I copied your "teen violence..." badge and will post on my page, linking it back to this to help spread the word! Violence needs to stop!
