back and standing up
Standing up for one's self and fighting back can be hard, but it is important to advocate for one's self.
One person can make a difference. Be the change.
Here is a great character who gains strength to stand up for herself and her friend...
Melinda from Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a weak character who gains strength to overcome her past, and stand up for not only herself, but her friend as well. Speak is a story of empowerment.
Don't Forget about the power of three!!!

Empowerment - good word to use!
Those sort of characters can inspire you in your own life, too.
Yep, standing your ground can be hard to do.
I appreciate that Rowling gave Neville points for it in HP.
Great post! I'll have to check out Speak.
This is such a great idea to have the topic and then give us characters and books to check out
It's always great to read about characters who learn to stand up for themselves. I'm sure I would love Melinda.
Character growth and change is essential for a good story. Maybe if girls read more books about girls who grow strong they will not grow into women who endure abuse.
My cousin just finished Speak and loved it.
Dropping in from A to Z. This is my first year participating.

I will have to check this book out because it is important to let other know they can overcome the negative messages and experiences that mold low-self esteem. If you want a personal story you can read my memoir that was just released: Under the Staircase: Hearing God's Voice in the Darkness. Thanks for the encouragement!
Nice cover. I think parents have a responsibility to teach their children how to stand up for themselves. Good theme for the A-Z.
