K-Killing, War, and Characters From YA Books

illing and War

Many teens around the world are impacted by war, either because they live in a war zone, enlist in the military, or see it in the news. Violence from war can cause post traumatic stress disorder.

Here are some characters from books with killing and teen violence or killing and teens in war as a theme...

Liesel Meminger from the Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a foster girl living outside of Munich. She learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

Francis Joseph Cassavant from Heroes by Robert Cormier is 18. He has just returned home from the Second World War, and he has no face. He does have a gun and a mission: to murder his childhood hero.
